WWAK81 PAFC 231314 SPSAER SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 514 AM AKDT Thu Apr 23 2026 AKZ732-240000- Thompson Pass- Including the city of Thompson Pass 514 AM AKDT Thu Apr 23 2026 ...PERIODS OF HEAVY WET SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS FOR THOMPSON PASS AND PARTS OF KEYSTONE CANYON THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING... A series of frontal systems will lift a plume of moisture from the tropical Pacific into Prince William Sound and along the coastal mountains through Friday. The bulk of this precipitation will fall in the form of heavy wet snow through Thompson Pass as temperatures hover between 29 and 33 degrees. 8 to 16 inches of snow is possible through Saturday morning, with the heaviest snow likely Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon and again early Friday morning through Friday afternoon. Southeasterly winds may gust up to 30 mph at times throughout the event. The combination of snow and gusty winds may reduce visibility through the pass tp as low as one half mile at times. There is some uncertainty as to whether rain may mix in with the snow during the late afternoon and evening hours with temperatures around freezing. If rain does mix in with snow, or if precipitation changes to all rain for a time, snowfall amounts will be less. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
