As a cold front has been moving east through central and northeastern SD overnight, the winds have been shifting to become more westerly. These winds will be picking up through the day, with sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gust up to 45 to 50 mph expected over central South Dakota through the afternoon. Northeast South Dakota will be a bit weaker, but the winds will still be gusting up to 40 mph. The relative humidity values over the northeast will drop below 25 percent today leading to a Red Flag Warning being issued for this afternoon. Central South Dakota will see humidity values between 20 to 35 percent, which reduces the fire weather concerns slightly. However, with the strong winds, any fire that does ignite or reignites could become difficult to suppress or control.
