For today, highs will reach into the upper 70s to mid 80s across northeastern WY and over the western SD plains. Afternoon humidities will drop into the single digits to teens. The very warm and dry conditions will support widespread near-critical fire weather conditions across northeastern WY and western SD. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of northeastern WY into southwestern and south central SD where the driest conditions and wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph are expected. Overnight humidity recoveries will be poor (<55%) across northeastern WY into the Black Hills and southwestern SD tonight. A similar story for Tuesday with very low humidities and temperatures reaching the upper 80s to low 90s in southwestern and south central SD. Winds will once again be the limiting factor with gusts of 20-25 mph over much of the western SD plains. Confidence is high in widespread elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions developing Tuesday afternoon and additional Red Flag Warnings may be needed for Tuesday afternoon. Once again, poor humidity recovery expected overnight Tuesday across northeastern WY into the Black Hills and southwestern into south central SD. Widespread critical fire weather conditions are looking more and more likely for Wednesday. Temperatures will climb into the 80s to 90s across much of western SD with humidities as low as 10%. Southerly winds will also pick up across the region ahead of an approaching cold front (gusts of 30-45 mph). The combination of hot, dry, and windy conditions along with the potential for dry thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon may support critical fire weather conditions across much of the area.
