Critical fire weather conditions are forecast late morning through afternoon for portions of southeast ND into west-central and north- central MN. This is driven by gusty southeast winds 20-30 mph and very warm temperatures with afternoon RH values in the 20-25 percent in these areas. Elsewhere today, near critical conditions are forecast with similar RH values in the 17-25 percent range, although lesser winds in the 15-25 mph range. Tonight features a chance for isolated thunderstorms, of which may be dry thunderstorms capable of lightning and brief gusty winds to 50 mph with little rainfall. Additionally tonight, forecast RH values stay below 50 percent, meaning there is less recovery in RH tonight. Winds will also stay elevated in the 15-25 mph range, still out of the south-southeast. For Thursday, multiple frontal passages and periods of gusty winds introduces the potential for additional fire weather concerns. During the daytime, a front shifts winds from south-southeast to more southwesterly around 15-25 mph (although confidence is low in strength of winds at this time). Behind this first front, RH values will dip markedly, as low as the mid teens, with temperatures reach back into the 70s. A second front moves through late afternoon into evening, increasing winds out of the west 25-40 mph, with RH values increasing over 40-60 percent. Isolated thunderstorms may develop in Minnesota during the afternoon. Cooler Friday through the weekend. Next chance of rain occurs Sunday and this one may bring a widespread although light rain to many areas.
